Creative Asset Bootcamp
The Learning Design and Technology (LDT) program at Wayne State University offers a wonderful overview of various technologies that are available to be incorporated into creating impactful learning content. Both contemporary industry standard tools and newer emerging technologies are introduced in many of the electives that are available in the program. But this exposure comes with noticeable limitations. These limitations are the result of covering a wide range of technologies within a 3-month semester. Depending on the technology being introduced, these courses do indeed adequately create awareness of these technologies and how they might be used. They do provide assignments that grant access to use some of these technologies. However, when surveyed, students indicated that they would like more training on the use of some of the most commonly used software, and some of the deeper design-thinking involved in their use.
The courses presented here are tailored to suit the needs of LDT students that want to learn more about software. The resulting set of two courses is presented here - the Creative Asset Bootcamp - Photoshop Basics, and the Creative Asset Bootcamp - Illustrator Basics. The two were built to exist on different learning management systems (LMS), Canvas (Photoshop Basics) and Articulate 360 (Illustrator Basics).
Course Design:
Photoshop Basics
This course is intended to provide a basic education in the basic tools and uses of the industry-standard photo editor, Adobe Photoshop.
The course is broken into 2 overarching Lessons, which contain a total of 9 Modules. If you are new to Photoshop, it is recommended that you go through the Lessons and Modules in a linear fashion. Experienced users may also find the Lesson flow useful. You might begin with Lesson 2 and refer back to Modules from Lesson 1 as needed. The Modules will remain available on-demand, wherein users reference Modules to brush up on specific areas. The primary content for each module will be a video tutorial, which has some accompanying text appearing on the Canvas page. Each Module builds off of the previous, working a photo composite project toward completion.
